EATING FRUITS - THE RIGHT WAY

Image
Fruits are good for you. They are loaded  with vitamins, minerals, enzymes, fiber, antioxidants. Fruits are Natures Best Multivitamins. But are we getting the most out of the precious fruits? Are we eating fruits the right way? Are we eating them at the right time?  As per Ayurveda, there are some ground rules which we must follow to make the most out of this nutrient-dense package called FRUITS. 1. Eat fruits empty stomach or 2 hours before or after meals. Fruits should be eaten alone without combining them with any other food. In the western world, the concept of combining fruit with protein is popular say an apple with peanut butter as it helps to regulate the sudden spike of sugar levels due to the release of sugars by fruit. That may be ok for someone who is DIABETIC or have HYPERGLYCEMIA (an excess of glucose in the blood stream), but not for everyone. In Ayurveda, Food Combining plays a significant role. The logic behind eating fruits on their own is that fruits ...

2016, New Year, New Resolutions. The determination to make healthier choices and to lose weight or say rather maintain a Healthy weight. I am not an advocate of dieting or counting calories. All we have to do is opt for healthier options, take up an exercise or any physical activity which allows us to sweat and try not to take the stress.  As per Ayurveda, one of the keys to living a healthy disease free life is to have a strong Digestive System. If our digestion is not proper it leads to accumulation of AMA( toxins ) in our body which ultimately turns into a disease. Therefore, it is extremely crucial to streamline the digestive system which builds a strong foundation  for a healthy happy life.  One of the bad habit which unfortunately most of us do is having ice cold water or soda with food. How many times I have heard people saying it is must to have soda as it helps with digesting the heavy food. Really????This one habit of our ruins the whole digestive proce...

HOW TO USE A NETI POT

Image
Me and my father both suffered from chronic congestion. It is more of the hereditary condition in my case. I always had  a cough and cold no matter whether it is summer or winter time.Sometimes I felt my mind is all blocked and I am unable to breathe freely. I have heard about Nasal wash a lot and how it helps in clearing congestion and sinus problems. Although at first it sounds a bit crazy. I have seen few of my relatives religiously using neti pot whole year round, but I never cared about it. It looks a bit strange. Pouring water from one nostril and have it come out from another. Actually not only strange it seems tough to do also. But rather than relying on allopathic medication which anyways won't be removing the root cause of my problem I thought of giving Neti pot a try. And I am glad I did. I have been using it past one year and it has helped me a lot. And now it is a part of my daily hygiene. WHY USE A NETI POT? The nasal passages which are lined with a thin layer ...
